Jorge Mario Pedro Vargas Llosa (Arequipa, 28 de marzo de 1936 / 13 de abril del 2025), marqués de Vargas Llosa, conocido como Mario Vargas Llosa, escritor peruano, desde 1993 español. Gran novelista y ensayista contemporáneo. Recibe las más importantes distinciones: Príncipe de Asturias de las Letras 1986 y el Nobel de Literatura 2010 —este último otorgado «por su cartografía de las estructuras del poder y sus imágenes mordaces de la resistencia del individuo, su rebelión y su derrota»—; el Cervantes (1994), el Planeta (1993), el Biblioteca Breve (1963), el Rómulo Gallegos (1967), entre otros.

Participa en política, desde joven ha demostrado una gran sensibilidad social, defensor de la libertad y la justicia sin prejuicios.
